Our climb to Mt. Kilimanjaro will be in the memory of Andrew Nicholas Swanson who died on June 11, 2009, in a mountaineering accident on the West Rib of Denali, in Alaska. Andrew graduated magna cum laude from Dartmouth, majoring in biology as he prepared for a career in medicine. He rowed heavyweight crew his freshman year before a love of climbing developed in full. The first annual Nepali-American Spine Symposium will be held at Hotel Yak and Yeti in Kathmandu, Nepal on March 20-21, 2010. Faculty will come from the US and India to participate. Topics will include review of spinal function, disorders and disease, application of innovative methods of assessment and management of various spine problems, evaluation of existing therapies in Nepal to enhance treatment decision making, and development of new approaches in correction of deformity, stabilization, fusion and fixation that conform to the realities and constraints of a resource scarce environment.
Klimb 4 Kidz successfully summitted Mount Moran, located in the Grand Teton National Park of Wyoming, on August 4th, 2009. Mount Moran dominates the northern section of the Teton Mountain Range, standing at 12,605 ft. above sea level. It is marked by a distinctive basalt intrusion of Precambrian crystalline rocks, known as the “Black Dike.” Mount Moran still has several active glaciers plainly visible on the east monolithic face.
